The Talk Therapy
As we go around and come across anyone fighting depression, our first response is to do our best to help them fight it, be with them, support them and that’s perhaps one of the best thing we can do for that person. But there are a few things we need to understand when we go through this process of support which will be helpful for them and ourselves: Be a listener: Listen to their experiences, but don’t minimize their experiences or trauma. In most cases doing so may actually be more harmful for the person than help. Don’t tell them how things could have been worse, validate their pain. “The thing about pain, it demands to be felt.”
